Moses
Ebenezer has dedicated his life to helping the poorest of the poor
in Salem, India. “Eb” is pastor of a small Christian
church in Salem, a city of over one million people in the province
of Tamilnadu. His ministry is not limited just to his congregation,
however. Eb manages an orphanage for children who would otherwise
be living a life of poverty while begging on the streets of Salem.
The orphans and other children from the primarily Muslim and Hindu
community are taught the Good News of the Gospel and given a level
of education in the Ebenezer Christian day school normally reserved
for those of higher status in India. A sewing school gives impoverished
women hope for the future by teaching them a trade.
Over the last
several years, Christ Church has been blessed with the opportunity
of helping Eb and his wife Dr. Helen (a trained medical doctor)
develop a program of ongoing medical care for the poor and impoverished
in Salem. Many of the people in Salem and its nearby villages
have never seen a doctor but are suffering from leprosy, untreated
diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart conditions. Volunteer
mission teams sent to Salem by Christ Church have been able to
offer Christian medical treatment during clinics held in Eb’s
church, treating physical ailments and healing spiritual wounds.
Donations from Christ Church have purchased enough medicine to
allow for ongoing medical treatment for many of the patients from
these clinics, such as yearly supplies of diabetic medication
and vitamins for the malnourished.
Moses Ebenezer
fervently believes in his mission to help the “poorest of
the poor” and
Christ Church is blessed to be a part of this special ministry
to the people of Salem.
