Adult Faith Formation & Seekers Club
Inquiry Class
Beginning January 26, 2012
Christ Church is a place that boldly proclaims the Christian Faith but does it in such
a way that encourages people to ask questions. Perhaps you have asked questions such
as . . .
- Who is God?
- Why do I exist?
- What is the purpose of my life?
- Why do bad things happen to good people?
- Who is Jesus and why should I “believe” in Him?
- What is the Bible? What is its purpose?
- What is the difference between being Lutheran and being a Christian?
- Why is the Church important?
- What is heaven and hell?
If you have ever asked questions like these, perhaps the Inquiry Class
beginning at Christ Church on Thursday January 26 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
in the Library is for you. For six weeks Pastor Albertin will be meeting with people who
are asking these kinds of questions in their spiritual journey. Some are thinking about
making Christ Church the place where they will continue their spiritual journey by
becoming a member of Christ Church. Some are already members but want to ask more
questions about the Christian faith. If you join the class, Pastor promises that you
will not be bored. You will discover that no questions are “out of bounds.” You will
learn about the unique contribution that the Lutheran movement has to make to the
Christian Church. Come and join the Inquiry Class. Sign up at the narthex or contact
Pastor Albertin. Childcare is provided.

The Bible Bunch
Wednesday Mornings, 10:00 am
The Making of the New Testament – Wednesday Mornings at the Bible Bunch!
Wednesday, January 4, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am . . . begins “The
Making of the New Testament” led by Pastor Albertin. This study provides a
useful introduction to the New Testament, an explanation of how the New Testament came to
be and a proposal for what that means for the life of the church and Christians today. Come
and join the free-wheeling discussion . . . and fellowship. The Bible Bunch meets every
Wednesday Sept – May in the Luther Room.
There can be no question that the New Testament is the most important book—or collection
of books—in the history of Western civilization; it is by far the “bestseller” of all time.
But many people today do not know a lot about the New Testament, including such basic facts
as:
- What books it contains
- When they were written
- By whom?
- When?
- For what purpose?
- How the books were transmitted down through the ages
- When and Why they were collected into Scripture
Sunday Night Faith Club - "Bonhoeffer: Discipleship"
3rd Sunday Evening each Month, 6:30 pm
A study and discussion of the life and work of the most famous Lutheran theologian
of the 20th century, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Bonhoeffer may be best
known to the public as a pastor who was executed in the last days of World War II
for taking part in a plot to assassinate Hitler. But before he died, he had
established himself as a very significant writer and spokesman for the church.
We will read and discuss his most famous book, "Discipleship"
(an earlier translation was titled "The Cost of Discipleship").
The discussion will be led by Pastor Albertin and Pastor Marcus Felde of Bethlehem
Lutheran Church and is offered to members of Christ Church and Bethlehem and other
interested participants.
